1981 300te gas wagon- gray market?

I'm looking to buy a 1981 300te with a 6 cyl gas engine. I'm waiting to get the VIN from him but in the meantime I cannot find this model listed ANYWHERE- is it a gray market vehicle? Any problems or issues I should be aware of?

Check out the VIN number for sure. I saw a Euro 123 wagon badged as a 300TE. It was actually a 200T.
