Hi all, I have a 1990 560SEL with a starter that runs when the key is turned, but it only engages the flywheel maybe 1 out of 4 starting attempts. I'm assuming it is the mechanism that pushes the starter gear into the teeth of the flywheel giving me the trouble.
I was going to replace the entire starter, but I saw a "starter drive" for a fraction of a new starter's price on the parts link that is the suspect portion of my starter unit...see the photo attached. Is this something I can replace on the starter motor myself without specialty tools, or would the wiser choice be the entire rebuilt starter unit ![]() Thanks,
