how to remove the shift gate cover (P,R, N, D,3, 2) on 1991 Mercedes 190E?
Need help!!! Anyone know how to remove the shift gate cover (P,R, N, D,3, 2) on 1991 Mercedes 190E?
I will like to replace the orignial shift knob to wooden shift knob, but don't know how to remove the orignial one. Hope someone can help me out. My old 1987 MB 190E has 4 screws on the shift gate cover, just unscrew and can replace the shift knob. Now, the 1991 one doesn't have screws to hold the shift gate cover. How can i remove it? Is it easy to remove? If have photos to show me how to remove it, that will be perfect!! ![]() Thanks |

Since no one replied, I can tell you how a '91 S-class is removed.
Maybe they are similar. Around the shifter there is a black plastic rectangle, about 1/2 inch wide. Just pry it up carefully with a putty knife or similar tool. Protect the wood around it with tape. Then, to remove the wooden surround piece, remove the ash tray holder (two screws beneath the ash tray), pop out the coin holder tray, and slide the wooden plate forward. Easy really. DG |
