1995 S500 - some small? issues?
My aunt has a 1995 S500 that she has had good luck with. I have found a CHEAP (I know a cheap MB usually ends up being a costly MB) 1995 S500 that I was considering taking a look at, but it has some issues and not sure if I should steer away from it or not.
A couple of things don't work... odometer. Also, the fan blower for the HVAC system works intermittently. The following warning lamps stay illuminated while the car is on: ASR, ABS and SRS. Lastly and probably the most serious - when the car is put in reverse, it takes a couple seconds to engage. My old 1985 380SE was like this as well, but it never got worse or caused any issues. I have a 1991 Lexus LS400 that is bulletproof - so reliable that its boring- ya know? ;) Wanting another S-Class anyway and not sure if this is one I should stay away from, or try to find a $$$$$ nicer one. I have had my eye on a local 1991 300SEL with 59K actual that seems to be a real catch. Thanks in advance. |
Reverse taking a few seconds to engage is a clear sign for an inmediate and complete transmission overhaul on the 722.3/4/5 About $3000.00 fix.
On a W140, constant on ASR/ABS/SRS can range from a couple of hundred bucks for defective relays to a couple of thousand dollars or more. I suggest a full check up on the system by a qualified tech. Personally, I would not walk away from such a car, I would RUN, and RUN FAST and don't look back! |
Pre-purchase inspection by a MB technician!

WOW! No wonder its so cheap! Thanks for that info!
Thanks MB Doc. I will keep that in mind for future MB purchase reference. For now, I may stick with my boring, yet bulletproof LS400. ;) Quote:
