190E starter question
Ok, quick question.
For somebody whos done it, how difficult would you rate replacing the starter in a 190E? I ma trying to decide if it is worth my effort to do it myself. Im assuming I need to replace the starter. When I turn the car over, the starter just whirrs 9 out of 10 times on average. On the 10th time, it makes contact and turns over. Should replacing the starter fix this? Thanks |
I would be willing to bet that you could fix the trouble by replacing the starter solenoid. From your description it sounds like the starter is functioning, just not engaging the flywheel.
Not a very difficult job. |
When you say, not a very difficult job, do you mean a job that could be completed in the parking lot with a rail of metric sockets and a few other necessary tools?
The reason I ask is where I currently live, i dont have access to a shop, but have the tools. About an hour aaway, I have access to a shop full of tools and other equipment. Im trying to decide if i need to make the trip to make the repair or if i can find a place to do it around here? |
If you can use ramps or jack stands (don't forget wheel chocks) in the parking lot, then yes it would be a pretty easy job. I'm not sure about placement on a 2.3 , but on my 2.6 it was pretty simple.
