Sway Bar Bushing Replacement, Any Danger?
Hi, I'm about to replace the bushings that connect the rear sway bar to the frame on my '92 400E, it seems as if it's a straight foward procedure. I'm just wondering if there's a possibility of the bar violently popping out of place when I loosen the bolts to the mounts since the bar is under pressure. I don't know if placing the car on jack stands vs. ramps is better since the bar might then be under a different force with no weight on the wheels. If anyone has experience doing this what do you suggest?
On a side note I'm doing the because my left rear suspension has a squeak coming from it that seems to suggest a bushing, hopefully this one. But more recently another squeak has developed that is related to the cars movement and speed. I reviewed pasts posts and don't think that it's the bearing since the sound is a very high pitched squeak. The brakes are less than 6 months old so that shouldn't be the issue either. Any thoughts?

To find a squeaky bushing, I usually give it a shot of lubricant, and see if that shuts it up.

As long as both wheels are at the same level, down or level, there will be twisting and no pressure. Use some silicone spray in the inside of the bushing or something I like, Syl-Gel silicone lubricant.

those links are straight forward just need to remove wheels so as to see what you are doing.no danger from popping out or up.have some patience when you are starting the lower bolts.

I just picked up the bushings from the dealer today and will hopefully be able to replace them within the next couple weeks. Since there seems to be no danger it should go smoothly, I'll let everyone know the outcome.
