Just bought a 1986 420SEL got home and realized the windshield wipers dont work:eek:. Anybody know if this a common problem? If so is it an easy fix? Everything, and i mean everything else on the car works. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Could be a fuse, could be a combination switch, possibly even a wiper motor or wiring problem. Inspect fuses very carefully first...

The combination switch is what im betting on (unfortunately). It feels a little sloppy. Any idea on the cost of one of these?

The combo switch for your model is $127.40. You can buy it by clicking buy parts at the top of this web page. This is one part I wouldn't buy used.

You will need a ratchet set and a torx set as well as a breaker bar to remove the steering wheel. Airbag must come off first with a couple small torx, then I think the wheel bolt is T50 or something close.

Not really a hard job, I did it on my 300E. If you had someone do it, it would turn into a $300+ job quickly with labor.
