126 560 Sec camshafts
hi
I would really appreciate if someone could help me solve the mystery with the camshafts fitted in this Mercedes. The car's VIN WDB1260451A550198 The left cam's lobes got much wear, so It has to be replaced. The problem is that the cam's that are in the engine have numbers: left: 117 051 16 01 right: 117 051 17 01 Don't the cam's that supposed to be originally fitted in this engine should be 117 051 18 01 (117 051 26 01) for the left, and 117 051 19 01 (117 051 27 01) for the right side? These cams 16 and 17 physically fit without problems and the engine ran well also. Does anyone know what is the difference between the 16(24) and 18(26) and why the 16(24) isn't that popular like the 18(26)? It is impossible to find the 16(24) one in my region, but there are a lot of 18(26). Don't know if I could have the 17 that I have now for the right side, and fit the new 26 for the left side. If there is a difference in lobe shapes between 16(24) and 18(26) that in wouldn't make much sense. I would have to replace both cams with the 26 for the left and 27 for the right side.
