94 e320 inermittent problem

Here are the symptoms

1. Has had rough Idle for a couple of months.

2. Mild Surging for the last couple of months. Mostly at stop lights and really bad in reverse. I replaced the MAS flow sensor and that cleaned it up a bit.

3. Recently at start up the car runs as though it has a dead cylinder or like the timing is way out of whack. If I sit at idle and rev the engine past 4000 rpm a couple of times then it will clear up. If you have ever had a catalytic converter collapse and the engine bogs down it feels just like that. If I floor it while it is screwing up it takes a couple of seconds and then it clears up.

My first thought is the OVP relay from what I have read and considering I replaced the MAS and have confirmed the Wire Harness to be a good replacement. Have any of you come across this and what was the culprit for you? I just don't want to go spend the $90.00 on the OVP if there is something else that is glaring. Let me know what ya know.

Thanks Guys

Gary

There is no check engine light but it is giving me a code of 17. I guess I need to make a tester and run the codes. I will do that and get back to you.

Results of codes:

code 13: O2 Sensor (lambda) control system operating at rich or lean limit

code 42: Can communication from Acceleration slip regulator (don't think my car has this option), Electronic Accelerator,Cruise Control tempomat,Idle Speed Control or diagnostic module faulty.

My guess is with the symptoms I have I need to do the O2 and the Idle speed control.

Input would be appreciated

It is much easier to diagnose when you tell us where you get your codes.

I would now go and check the EA/CC module [pin #14]

First set of codes was off pin 8.

I ran pin 14 and it came back only with "5 stop lamp switch"

It appears that the Bulk of my problem was a loose vacuum hose.

That would be for mixture complaint, but the EA is telling you the Stop Sw is going..easy fix and very common.
