Viscuous Fan Clutch Worn Out?
I noticed that at operating temperatures (85C) and 100 outside, with my engine off, I am able to spin my fan clutch about 1/4 turn max with a good shove. Is this normal or is it a sign that it needs replaced?
I don't have any overheating problems at all. I'm just curious if the clutch should be completely locked at this temp or is it normal to be able to move it a bit. I also did the mod on the pin, but don't know if/how that affects things when it's already at operating temperatures. |
85C is not a warm enough coolant temp to lock it up.
Ought to begin to lock up around 95 to 100C. When it does, and you step on the throttle, it'll sound like a 747 taking off. |
Thanks. I'll check it again when it's really hot.
