CEL: Large fuel leak, high ethanol-content fuel

Subject car: 2002 MBz E320 wagon (3.2L, fuel source: Premium unleaded ), 108k miles

We've been have a frequent CEL on this car for about 8 weeks now. I scan the car and see something to the effect of "large fuel leak", which is the coded message for "your fuel cap is loose*". So, I've installed some new (fuel cap) o-rings, tried a few different fuel caps, purchased different brands of fuel and still have the CEL. I've always been able to correct this in the past, not so this time.

The car is at our preferred and competent dealership today for that and spark plugs and trans service. I just spoke with the dealer and he reports that they've had over 300 similar cases in the past month. One owner had the local fuel tested and the ethanol content came back at 25%. We're supposed to MAX out at 10% here in MA. So, car is due for an inspection sticker next month and we all know you can't get a PASS sticker with the CEL lit up.

Service writer seems to think the O2 sensors are reading out of range and causing the CEL. Anybody else know about this and a possible solution?

Thanks.

*low fuel warning light had been flashing, but not recently

Thanking lucky stars we don't have emissions testing here in Idaho, yet

Wishing you luck

Thanks.

It didn't turn out to be anything too serious and they have resolved. Picked up the car 1 hour ago and CEL is off They say the replaced the canister shut off valve as it was leaking.
