White with grey is a designo color?

I'm not convinced the V12 cars are worth the hassle - the money to keep them going is a lot more than the V8, and the V8 is cheaper and almost as fast. Tough sell to me.

Nice car, but the designo interior wasnt around in the early 90s.

JimFreeh 06-15-2008 04:13 PM

My cousin has had a mid nineties R129 V-12 for a number of years. His has been pretty trouble free, and any issues he has had, were related to the general car, and not specific to the engine.

If I ever get a R129 car, it would be a toy, so...... why not get a 12?
I've driven all three versions, 6, 8 and 12. I believe I'd grab a 12 over the 6.....

Looks like a stock SL600 to me with aftermarket chrome wheels.

The V12 is the engine to get, so sweet!

powerpig 06-15-2008 04:52 PM

It's not a designo.
The wheels are OEM.
Looks like mine except for the color.
No major problems with mine after over two years of ownership.

Hatterasguy 06-15-2008 06:15 PM

The wheels are, the chrome ain't. Someone dipped them.

Sorry, but they are OEM for the SL600.

I'm surprised the dealers must do it, AFAIK chrome wheels are illegal in Germany.

Can't say I've ever heard that they were illegal in Germany. I also have a set of chrome AMG wheels for an ML that are OEM.

Just because something is illegal in Germany doesn't necessarily mean that it can't be initially installed in a car destine for export. Look at all the emissions crap MB has been putting on cars for U.S. consumption. While the emission controls are not illegal in Germany, I doubt MB ever contemplated that a German would ever want the option. Same goes for some of the safety options as well (e.g., bumpers).

Mercedes doesn't put chrome wheels on cars - this for the same reasons that they are illegal in Germany.

woth hanging out in Rancho regardless of the car!

sd300td 06-16-2008 01:22 PM

Rancho Santa Fe is not too far from me. Nicest neighborhood in San Diego by far. Lot's of rich old horse people live out there including names you've heard.

I bet there are a ton of nice old MB's parked in garages out there with low mileage.
