U Pull It adventure
I thought I would tell you all this story and introduce myself at the same time, this looks like a great forum and I hope I can share some knowledge when I can with you folks.
I bought a '90 420SEL last year for $2500. Everything works and the a/c was still R12, since I really wanted a '90 or '91, I bought it even though the clearcoat on the roof was ruined by someone who got too excited with a buffer. The interior is mint, except for small bugger on the drivers seat bolster. I bought a gallon of laquer, and I'm going to paint the roof in the fall once the weather cools off some. It shows 150k miles and the only mechanical problems I have had are a leaking EHA, caster joints, and fan clutch. Easily fixed by me at home, so I just had to pay for the parts. The only issue right now is some light oil smoking on cold start if it sits for a few weeks at a time. This last week, I remembered about the local U Pull it place, since the trunk light switch went sour on me. I hadn't been there in about 20 years, though it hadn't changed much. $1.25 was the price of entry into this garden of Eden. ;) At first, I didn't see any Mercedes. After wandering around for about an hour, I found a '83 euro 500SEL way in the back. I paid $3.00 for the trunk light switch, sadly the euro headlights and such were long gone. Here is my question. I can buy the bumpers for around $60.00/pair, will they fit my '90 W126? I know they don't offer the protection, but they sure look nice and they are mint. Best regards, Louie. |
Louie, they might. Simplest way to find out is find a US W126 in the same yard and try the swap there.

Do some more research/ searches for first and second generation w126. You have a 2nd generation w126. The 83 is first generation w126. There were changes made between the 85 and 86 models if I remember right.
|
They will fit. IIRC, the first and second gen euro bumpers were different but the US bumpers stayed the same throught the change. They should still bolt right up.

Thanks for all the replies, checking against another post '85 model is a pretty good idea. I think I saw a burned 420SEL on my way out.
Btw, they also buy scrap metal there, I was quite a sight to see the tweakers selling copper by the trailer load to these guys. |
