ACM Evaporator (124)

My '87 300e needs a new evaporator. The evaporator the shop wants to install is approx $800. I see the evaporator made by ACM is between $250 and $300. Is it as good as the original in my car? Will it fit without problems? Does anyone know much about the ACM evaporator? Please help me understand. Thanks.

There is a technician who helps out a lot on this site, euro 287, who has frequently recommended the acm evaporator.

I did a quick search under 'acm evaporator' under his username, and got a lot of hits.

Here is a good example:

I WOULD SPEND A LITTLE MORE FOR AN ORIGINAL BEHR. THEY FIT ALOT NICER ( OE ). I'VE TRYED TO USE ACM BUT THEY WOULD NEVER FIT CORRECTLY.

Isn't the original BEHR copper AND aluminum? If so the aftermarkets are better because they do not have the bimetallic problem of the original.

Good luck,

The ACM is a QUALITY aftermarket German evaporator that is on the same quality level as the Behr unit! IT also comes with an OE expansion valve.
THE ICPM aftermarket unit is an American "copper" tubing unit that has a fitment problem.

With the failure rate of the factory unit being as high as it is, I would head to the ACM unit myself!!

Don't forget to replace the vacuum elements when the dash is OUT!! esp the center vent & recric air ones!

Behr evaporator(s) are all aluminum.

You would be better off starting a new thread.
