e420 94 will not start

i noticed as i was driving that speedometer, gas, temp, hand was not moving. i cut the car off tried to restart but would not. all the lights on dash came on. i was told to check to see if the security light was on but it wasnt. check fuses all good could someone give me some insight on this problem iam thinking it may be the switch

Sure sounds like a fuse problem. Very little connection between gauges and the car starting. It also could just be a dead battery caused by a failing alternator.

hi steve
but the car was running at first yhen i turn around an cut it off . is there any fuses in side of car that i need to check. the fuel pump an everything come on but when turning to crank nothing it does not try to turn over

Arthur Dalton 06-29-2008 09:29 PM

<but when turning to crank nothing it does not try to turn over
>

So , does this mean the car will not CRANK ?? ..or does it mean it cranks , but won't START ????

stevebfl 06-29-2008 09:33 PM

Do the headlights stay bright when you try to crank it?

nucor 06-29-2008 10:01 PM

no it will not crank yes the headlight are bright

Arthur Dalton 06-29-2008 10:04 PM

Try moving shifter from P to N ..
..and replace fuse #5..

nucor 06-29-2008 10:12 PM

moved from p to n an fuse is good

If you should follow Steve's and Arthur's advice, and check the fuses - check them closely - a nearly invisible hairline crack, left me in the exact same predicament.

(after checking the battery, doing the headlight test, and trying to start in N vs. P, I checked the fuses, and voila! that's all it was)
Good thing too...I was out on a date :D

nucor 06-29-2008 10:20 PM

ok larry because i didnt check them very closely just didnt check them closely

Arthur Dalton 06-29-2008 10:25 PM

The reason I said to just go and Change fuse 5 is b/c we see this all the time..the fuse looks fine, but the ends do not conduct ..and if that fuse circuit is open , the K38 Starter Interlock Relay does not allow starter activation..fitting your common complaint on that chassis.
So, change it , regardless of how you think it looks ...just to get that common problem off the table.

nucor 06-29-2008 10:42 PM

ok larry i will check and change the #5 fuse thanks.
also larry my temp rises when i sit still could this be the thermostat got a new radiator on it u have any ideal

If the viscous fan clutch is good, and the low speed fan does NOT come on, I would suspect that one of the wires to the resistor has burned off. (naturally, I would check any fuses first, and then verify that the fan works to begin with).
There are probably other things to check - but - I mention the resistor, because it has happened to me 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years, and I'm not the only one it has happened too.

nucor 06-29-2008 11:05 PM

yes the fans come on when the temp goes up

Larry Delor 06-29-2008 11:07 PM

Low speed and High speed?
The lows are fairly quiet - the highs are noticable from at least 10-15 feet away.
