89 190e just bought it.

2.6 liter
I had fixed the car for a friend a few days ago, it was running hot. replaced the fan clutch and thermostat and the temp is perfect now. The car has 115k miles and very clean.
He went to get it smogged today and they failed him because the CE light would not come on. quoted him 200.00 to replace bulb. WOW
and 150 to make it pass smog. The test was never run, no results on his papers were given. free re=test though.

Replaced the 10 amp fuse on the VP relay that was blown thanks to you guys at this wonderful site, and is back to normal.
My question is that when I was on the freeway at 65 mph the rpm was about 3k+. Is that normal? it appears high to me, ive been driving a bmw 328i and the rpm seems lower than that of the MB. Is it a 4 speed tranny or a 3 speed?
Also the sticker from the dealer is on the car and it retailed for 34,600.00
plus taxes i'm sure.

But the MPG was estimates at 20 on the city and 23 on the hiway, Any way to increase the mpg? seems low for the car size.
Thanks.

My wife will be happy with her new car and "safe" which is why I bought the beauty.

The base price in 1989 was $32,500, East and Gulf Coast POE

EPA rating at the time was 20/23 mpg
Understand that the car weighs 3,195 lbs.

Thanks, just wanted to make sure that the rpm was correct.
The price on the west coast was 4 grand higher, she bought it in San francisco.

Thanks for your reply. I guess that safety comes with a price.

The west coast cars were more expensive due to shipping, but I would think that there were probably some optional equipment that made up most of that difference. It could also be that it had the Calif smog pump included.

You can get a copy of the original window sticker from MBUSA with the POE price, option prices and the final MSRP.
