01 W210 AC Blower Motor Regulator question
 

2001 E320 Wagon, all wheel drive

Hello,

I did a search on 210 blower motor, and found that most who had problems were 1998 and earlier.

My mechanic mentioned that half way through 1998, MB changed the regulator to a different style. He says it's an easy fix, the part is $280 with one hour of labor.

I'm thinking (not that I want to take business away from my mechanic) that if it's so easy, why don't I do it...only thing is, I couldn't find any instructions online and was wondering if anyone could help?

When I do a search, either here or a search engine, the only instructions I find are for "early w210" repairs (with the W140 regulator mod). Nothing for the later cars. I'd hate to get in over my head, but at the same time, I'm usually pretty good at DIY repairs. Any help or advice would be great, thanks for your time!!!

Very simple job, takes a good technician LESS than 1/2 hour.

Removal of PASSENGER underdash panel is required. then you will see the blower motor housing, about 5 screws later the regulator.

With a Name like that , you could do the whole job in about 2 min ... with just a Paper Clip........:):)

97 E300 D Help! Blower unit running slow
 

I have a removed the blower fan and bench tested and it runs fast, when

I plug in to car I have 14 volts @ the blue and red wire with fan control set to off.

When I turn fan control on I get 1.3 volts and fan only runs slow?

That sounds like your blower regulator has failed, Denver. Search for the instructions (and part number) to retrofit a W140 regulator in place of yours. That will save you about $500-600 for a new blower motor and mounting plate.

Matt pretty much covered the options. Buy the entire assembly for ~$800 or get the $200 W140 regulator.

I would test a little further before condemning the regulator

If you simply run a jumper wire from the blu wire to a ground w/key ON, you should have a full/high fan...If NO , the problem is the blower.
If Yes, then you want a Voltage reading from the yellow wire to ground. That should be a variable voltage fro 2-9 volts, depending on the blower setting at the Control Panel. That sig is the speed trigger for the regulator and if it is not correct , then the problem is not the regulator..it is the CP..
Most likely is the reg, but at those prices , I would certainly want to test those two circuits forst.

My '98 has been exibiting some strange behavior lately. Sometimes I hear a high pitched "squeeling" sound from the passenger dashboard area. This is accompanied by the blower speed "revving" up and down as if some invisible person were pressing a throttle on it.

Otherwise, it seems to work fine in auto mode. I can also set the speed manually to any position and it will work.

Is this the same type of problem you guys have experienced and is the regulator on it's way out?

Thanks Guys, appreciate the help, I will do some more testing, Can anyone tell me if 97 300D has the same fan and regulator as a gas 97 E300? I may have located a whole used assembly.

Just go to the top of the page and click on Parts ..then look up the two different chassis and see if they list the same part#..then you will know for sure... no guessing that way...........
