Thumbs up dead cyclinder

hi... i have a question how much will it cost to due a valve job on a straight 6 engine for a 1993 mercedes 300se if i send my car to a small mechanic shop. #1 cylinder is not firing and is getting to much gas i remove the plug and it was a little wet and smell like gas not oil, or could it be something else thanks for the help.

Answered your last post on the same complaint.so, I repeat.....
Do a compression test , specially on that cylinder...

It costs way too much to do it without doing some more diagnostics. Have you done a compression / leak down test on all cylinders? What were the results?

Another simple test

If you have one totally dead cylinder, I would suggest that a first test would be to remove the valve cover and inspect all the rocker assemblies and compare them to the cylinder that is not firing. Perhaps you have a broken rocker assembly and that should be pretty easy to see.

If one has a dead cylinder , the First test is a commpression test...that will tell you if you then have to take the valve cover off......


..but I am in agreement with the possibility of a rocker problem....just going in there before a compression test is poor diagnostics procedure...
