300e Fuel Sending Unit Removal

I have a sticky Fuel Sending Unit on a '91 300e, that needs to be cleaned. I am having a hard time getting the part out of the tank and would appreciate any tips on how this is accomplished. I have been able to remove the holding ring and free the unit, it's just the extraction part that has me stumped.

Thanks for this and all the other help and guidance I gotten from this site.

Craig

I removed mine on my '86 300E by sliding it out towards the rear of the car at an angle. It was a little tight but not difficult. My car is stock but if you have modifications to the rear shelf e.g. additional speakers or other equipment it may interfere.
