96 E320 turn signal loose

My 96 E320 signal lever is loose, I noticed that the plastic cover that clips to the steering column is out of place. Putting it back and taping the cover to the column helps but still needs fixing. I went to the dealer but that part comes with the turn signal assy, any suggestions? I also noticed that when its loose , the high beam is always on, is ther anything loose on the turn signal assy also?

loose turn signal

I took the car to a Benz sho and asking $280 to replace it claiming there are electrical switches that are critical inside that assy. Can somebody confirm if thats true, will it cause short in the system? I tape the cover using electrical tape for now and its staying in place. Any suggestions anybody?
