Code Reader Problems

I have a 93 E320 Wagon and have never been able to pull codes off it.

The push button on the reader in the car is non functional. I noticed that all the wires under it have had a minor amount of insulation cut away as if the PO's were troubleshooting this at one time.

I cannot find any wiring diagrams of this unit and am looking for any suggestions on how to start.

I have already built a reader (A Dalton design) and cannot get that to function as well.

Test 1 Result

Voltage measured at Connector 16 w/ key on. I will need to recheck becuase the meter I used is a 0-50 span and it looked just under 10V. Once I dig out the better meter, I will report.

I retried the push button since I had not done so after putting dielectric grease on all the fuese after fixing my aux fans. Still no pulsing from the LED.

Cool..
You would be surprized at how many do not know the tool is polarity sensitive when they make it..which is why I have +/- indications on the plan........

What do you have at pins 8 and 14??

OK - the car's default reader is DOA - can't seem to get the LED to respond.

Got codes with the hand reader. Pulled and cleared - drove around, then pulled and cleared again. Here they are

First Run
Pin 6 - 2 and 8
Pin 8 - 4, 25,33,42,49
Pin 14 - 2,5,11 - 5 would NOT clear

Took car for ~30 min drive

Pin 6 - 8
Pin 8 - 4, 25, 28, 33, 42
Pin 14 - 5,11 5 still won't clear.

Ran pin 7 as well
Pin 7 - 1
pin 10 would not respond
