W201 Purchase Advice

I'm looking at a 93 190E 2.6 with a friend who is car shopping this weekend. I'm wondering if anyone has any guidance or suggestions as to what issues there may be to look out for in regard to this model. I know that it's got a great engine, but little else about the model.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure that on a hot day and with the engine idling normal, that the temperature guage doesn't move up even with the AC on. This would be a sign on a clogged radiator from head gasket leaking oil into coolant.

Test all of the electrical switches, make sure that with ignition on and engine on all of the indicator bulbs (idiot lights) are lit.

Make sure it downshifts when flooring the accelerator when climbing a hill at 45MPH or so.

Thanks, Robert. Sounds like the same sort of things you might look at on a W124. Overheating and transmission going. But are there any other issues common to the 201s, like the wiring harnesses or evaporators going?

The W201 and W124, particularly the M103 powered cars, are quite similar and you would examine them the same way.
