exhaust smell E220

My E220 W124 94 model has a bad exhaust smell when I open the front window/s. I have changed the front exhaust pipe (it was cracked) but the smell is just as bad. The computer analyzer said the engine was working perfectly.
Anybody know why this could happen - I'd appreciate any ideas ... ?
