Serpentine belt change
Was looking around under the hood of the 320 the other day and noticed some cracks in the grooves of the drive belt. Got a new one and put it on yesterday, with the help if the belt routing diagram in the owners manual. I don't think it had ever been changed in 140K, but I was definately running on borrowed time. I could split the belt apart in my hands. It is just something you don't want to have to do out on the road somewhere, so take a good look at yours if the miles are getting high.

Good advice, Pete. I did both my cars a couple of weeks ago too. It's amazing just how easy they are to change too!

They ARE easy to replace! :)
I've done mine three times during my ownership. Sometimes you don't even see the wear until you take the belt off and inspect it. I had one belt that had a chipped groove, and when it went around the smog pulley, it sounded like a worn clutch bearing! Again, couldn't see the damage on the belt until I pulled it... |
How involved is the belt change on a 112/113 engine? I've done plenty on a 103 but these look a little bit more complicated.

Paul, just make sure you have a routing diagram handy and it will be a snap. I just did it on an M119 (which has a similar routing pattern) and it took less than 5 minutes. It's actually a lot easier to do than it looks.

The 104 was a bit tricky without the fan blade off. Routing the new belt over the main crank pulley had me twisting my tongue a few times for sure. Of course the 2 piece fan shroud comes off first. The routing diagram is invaluable.

Serpentine Belt Change - 1991 190E
Can anyone help with this? I've seen that it's fairly easy, but I don't wanna do anything incorrectly or out of order. Any quite but concise instructions?:o
