Slack seat belts '99 S500
I have a '99 W140 S500 and my girlfriend is complaining because after you buckle the seat belt, you can pull extra slack in the seatbelt belt and it does not automatically tighten them back up. The belts only tighten back up if you unclick the latch and re-latch it.
I thought this was a MB feature to make driving more comfortable and that the emergency belt tensioning system tightened them back up in an accident. Is this normal on this model car, or is something wrong and in need of replacement or repair? Advice would be appreciated Thank you Rick Womble ![]() |

That's definitely does not sound normal. Question: Do the other seat belts in the car act the same way? Ask your girlfriend to sit in the back or the driver's side and try it.
It sounds to me like your belt retractor could use a few drops of lube.
