To all shop owner, indies out there
I got an estimate of 3 hours ($85 each = $255) for labor to replace the leaking waterpump. The shop said that elsewhere 4 hours are the standard.
1) Do you think I have a deal, provided the job will be well done. 2) At such labor cost it does not seem to make sense to replace only the O-ring. Cost saving for part is about $200 with the risk that it will be leaking at the pulley some other time. Thanks for your input.

It may help to know what model and engine you have.
For instance, it's about six hours book time to do the water pump on a 190E 2.6L while it's about 4 hours on a 190E 2.3L four cylinder. |

My car is a 1996 E320 as in my signature. Looks like I got a deal. Thanks!

I think thats a good deal. It took a lot of work to do the waterpump on my 420sel. I would have paid 225 at the time if I had had the money at the time.

Look to pay anywhere from $450 to $750 at the independent shops.
I would request a mercedes specific pump. Most of the pumps now have been narrowed down to a few and some require installing a small freeze plug type bushing with some orange sealant. I recently had a customer with a 97 E-320, with a dealer quote of $1200 for a water pump job. |
