My check engine light came on yesterday while driving to work. The car itself ran fine with no changes in behavior.

The code read P0410 Secondary Air Injection System Malfunction

Is there a common problem with the air pump? The only time I have seen this code on the forum is when I reported it back in 2004. The issue there was a blocked cat which caused poor performance.

This is not the issue in this case.

I just did a search on "P0410" and got 4 pages of discussions about P0410, its causes and solutions.

Have you done a search?

With a good MB scanner you can perform a activation of that system & WATCH what happens to both front O2 sensors. They must drop & hold their voltage output to less than 40mV.

I'll see if i can get that checked out, the system seems to only act up when I'm sitting at idle (such as sitting at traffic lights) for some time. Then I can feel the engine change tone and the idle starts to hunt.
