Timing chain tensioner spring question on M103

I am having trouble reinstalling the timing chain tensioner. All that is left is the spring and the plug, but I cannot compress the spring enough to get the plug to where it needs to be. If you can give some advice on getting this back on, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Michael, pretty tough isn't it?
I made a simple tool that I used to wrestle the thing back in.

Basically what I did was take a bolt with a hex head the same size as the allen socket in the tensioner cap. Jam the bolt into the cap, then you can screw some kind of arm on the bolt for leverage to keep the cap pushed up against the spring pressure.
Start with the bolt and kinda improvise from there. You should be able to get it started in a few tries, and a few breaks to get the blood flowing back to your arms!

DG,
This thing is a real pain. I will give your method a try. What did you use for the arm?

n the 104 it helped to remove the airbox for some leverage room, and then apply simlar tactics - pressure while turning.
