I had the exact same problems and must chime in and agree with this. For more than a year I thought my FEBI switch was misaligned. It wasn't; it was simply junk.

Yesterday I spent 3 hours attempting to properly align it, with no luck. Out of frustration, suspicion, and curiosity, I plugged the connector into my old MB switch (thank goodness I saved it), and the car started fine -- in both park and neutral. I removed the FEBI, reinstalled the MB switch, and with a 2-second alignment procedure everything is perfect again.

My original switch would not start in Park when it was cold, but once warmed up it behaved fine. When it acts up again this Fall/Winter I will replace it with an original MB part, taking comfort in the knowledge that I can now do this job in just 15 minutes. :)
