2002 C230......opinions....

I observed the back side of what
appeared to be a 2002 C230 today
in a parking lot.
It had a 'smoke' colored plastic
lens over the trunk lid.
Anybody seen this?
My initial reaction was ...well..
looks kind of toy like.
This was a quick take reaction/opinion.

It was definitely badged C230.

I guess you saw the coupe. I think it would be a much better car with the V6. The 2.3 Kompressor motor is kind of old tech. The car should be fast with it though.

Have a great day,

I believe it was 2001 (for the SLK) that they fixed the kompressor sound. It now is much less coarse, and sounds a little more refined. And I believe it even has 190 horsepower now (from 185).

I have heard great reviews on the driving fun that the C230k coupe gives, and I bet it's a blast to drive also. But I don't like the rear end, who is MB kidding!? It's a hatchback! And a damn ugly one at that, IMO. The front is beautiful, and I think the idea and concept were good, but how could they possibly make the rear look like that!? (And then to call it a COUPE!)

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my "low tech" comment. The low tech I refer to is the construction of the engine itself, not valve configuration, supercharging or engine management. This low tech comment in engine construction is as compared to the V6 and V8. The V6's and 8's have cross bolted mains, open deck with sophisticated alloy liners, roller followers, two spark plugs per cylinder with offset timing to reduce piston rock, machined and cracked rod journals, and on and on and on....

This stuff aside, the kompressor engine, properly maintained will last a long time and there's nothing really wrong with it. If you were to compare it to most other engines in the world instead of it's newer sibling, it would come out great by comparison. It is very High tech as compared to most other engines in the world. Look at how many pushrod engines of sixties design are still in use in the US, such as the V6 Buick.

Have a great day,
