Power Head Rest Switch
I have a 1991 300E, the driver side power head rest decided to take a break from work. I think the problem is the switch since it feels slightly different than the passenger side switch now. How do you remove the switch panel on the door without making a mess of it?
I would also like to remove and clean or replace the window switch but have not been able to locate the procedure for this. Thanks |
Try some spray on electrical contact cleaner first.

Power Seat Switch R+R (See Picto-grams Below):
Window Lift Switches (Console): Pry up the front of the carpet in the tray under the Driver's Armrest ...remove the single Phillips screw...[Now look at the plastic surround inset into the wooden piece at the shifter...GENTLY using a small plastic spatula...pry it up and off] ...lift the wooden console cover upwards from the back...Pivoting forward 90 degrees (there are two plastic hooks that slide under the ashtray piece [On the front of the Console Cover]and you are pivoting the console cover so as not to break them.) individual window switches may now be GENTLY pulled up and out. |
Thanks, that will be tomorrow mornings project.

However, I will put odds on the weak link: the plastic pinion inside the seatback. To get access to that you need to take the seatback off. Procedure is buried somewhere in the forum. You can get a replacement part for 30-40 bucks, but judicious wrapping with duct tape solved my problem.
