NGK BP5ES - help!!!

Hope everyone is having a good night so far... can't say the same for me.
While I was tuning up my '89 300E this evening I couldn't get the NGK's to tighten because the 13/16" socket is too big. The Bosch use a 5/8" drive and the opening is only big enough for a socket a little over that. Am I missing something here??? I was really excited about switching over from the Bosch h9dc plugs to the NGK BP5ES but, I guess it'll have to wait until tomorrow :(

Hmmm...researched a little bit more on here to come up with NGK part # Bp5efs. Maybe this is the correct plug? Is there anyone else running the BP5ES or BP5efs plugs in their M103?

You have the wrong plugs ..
You need tapered seat BP5EFS , not BP5ES

socaleuro 09-23-2008 02:59 AM

Ahhh... just the person who I wanted to help out on this. I re-read the thread where you mentioned the BP5EFS. Ok, looks like I'll be going back to the store to exchange. Thanks!

Read Twice, shop once.....:)

socaleuro 09-23-2008 03:03 AM

Yea, I actually caught that the first time but with everyone going with the BP5ES I figured those were it. I guess everyone that was using them doesn't have a 103, haha. Thanks again A.D.!

Yeah..the BP5ES are for the Bosch DC series plugs with the copper gaskets...yours have tapered seats w/no gasket...different engines

That's funny, I like that.

Yeah...I when I was a kid I worked Summers for an Old carpenter cutting boards by hand....and everytime the board didn't fit he would say " Measure twice, Cut once "
I now use that for other simular circumstances

I run NGK BP6EFS in my twin turbo M103-12V....not sure why you would want a lower range then a 6 ?

Arthur Dalton 09-23-2008 03:03 PM

BC his Bosch Originals call a stock heat range of 9...which is a 5 in NGK.
What you run on a different engine set-up has nothing to do with his engines specifications on heat range.

Arthur: I just got back from the parts store where I ordered the BP5EFS. The guy showed me a picture of the actual plug and it looks like it will work seeing that the socket has to be 5/8" , not 13/16" like the BP5ES. Also, I couldn't help but notice an "R" on the plug itself under the part number. What's up with that? Oh, also called a motorcycle shop looking for the BP5EFS...the guy talked to me like I was nuts. Saying that car plugs are way too hot for motorcycles, since plugs for bikes are in the 7,8,9 range. I wouldn't know...

RBYCC: I believe since your turbo, you have to go lower on the heat scale. I know this is the case for Audi's with non-factory set ups.

Arthur Dalton 09-23-2008 04:57 PM

BP5EFS in a Resistor plug would be an PBR5EFS...

However , the Non-R are becoming scarce and that might mean they are going to automatically going t replace the non=R with a R when you order ...
I would ask.

socaleuro 09-23-2008 05:30 PM

Yea, thought so... We both double checked the part number for the BP5EFS (no "R") and everything looked good except the picture (could it be that they are using a stock photo of the new "R" plugs?). I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happened tomorrow.

Arthur Dalton 09-23-2008 05:37 PM

Unfortunately, all replacement plugs are going to be R and Non R are being phased out.
Main reason for this is cars today are so computer controlled and circuits are frequency sensed to the point that any RF can screw them up....HASH /NOISE is the ememy today, where yeras ago they only hads to worry about some interference on your RADIO ....:)

Radio ???...what's that , Dad ?????????????

I am of age that I can remember when R/H was an Option...[radio/heater.]

AC was the position you put the key to when you wanted the RADIO on when you went Parking......that was coool.

Trouble with Parking was you always had to be on the Alert for that guy with the HOOK Arm that just eascaped from the Insane Asylum....scaryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy !!!!!
