W126 560SEL pumps run but no fuel?
Hi all. My wife's '89 cut off, won't start. Both pumps run but there is no fuel to the engine. Removed the fitting at the fuel cooler, not a drop (plenty in the tank). The car has been stumbling on hard acceleration for a bit. Will these cars run on one pump? Will the pumps run but not pump? Could the car run on just one working pump until the other failed?
Thanks. Harold |

Do you have volume from the pump? Because it runs doesn't mean it pushes fuel...

The fuel cooler is on the return side of the system. There won't be fuel there unless the pumps make it to system pressure. Take the line off at the inlet side of the fuel dist. There is a screen in the inlet fitting and I have seen them plug up but it is rare. It is more likely that if the pumps can't get fuel through the pressure regulator then the pumps are bad. If so replace both.

Don't over-look the tank screen...specially on an 19 year old chassis...
