2003 E320 Brake service

One of my friends has an E320 that needs the brakes serviced on it. The light has been on in the dash for some time now. I have heard that one cars equipped with the SBC (?) system lock the calipers down when the car is shut off for a safety feature. Is this a true statement, and how do you go about changing pads if they lock down every time the car is shut off.

Thanks in advance

The SAFEST way is by de-activating the system with a scanner! EXTREME caution if you don't have the correct equiptment!!

However if you disconnect the electrical connector from the hydraulic unit, remove the key & close the doors, & wait for 15-20 minutes, the system will go to sleep & you can do the pad/rotor service.

DO not open a bleeder!! do not try to bleed brakes!

OK just to verify.

Shut car off (leave key in)
Disconnect ECU
Remove Key
Shut doors.

Thanks for the quick response this is exactly the info i was looking for.:2thumbsup

None of that is accurate.
