Problems with E320

I have a 1995 E320. I have retrieved the codes of 5 and 18. The 5 regards to EGR inoperative. The 18 refers to Adjustable Camshaft Timing Solenoid - open or short circuit. I am a bit new to these gas MB cars. Does anyone know what I should be looking for to fix these problems? I am experiencing vibrations when idling at stop lights.

I posted today and got a reply but I can no longer find it on this forum.

Thanks,

I answered that post , but it somehow got deleted..

The vac line I mentioned is under the front engine cover ..they are white plastic and they crack..you will see it if you lift the cover.

Do a Search on EGR and there are thousands of post on it ...

I think we lost some posts today in file maintenance. Search for "EGR pipe" too. Your vibration may be unrelated to the codes - sounds a bit like bad motor mounts which wouldn't throw a code.

The vibration at idle would be caused by the vac line I mentioned as my First diagnostics check b/c not only does it bring on a CE code 5, it also causes a vac leak ..common coupling of complaints on a code 5 w/bad SOV vac feed line.

A code 5 w/o the idle complaint would direct one to possible blocked EGR tube .

I've been searching here and the FSM, ... can't figure out how you guys get these error codes from your car.

Are the ECU and ignition separate modules with separate error codes? The FSM makes it sound that way.

Also, what would cause the throttle to operate with the key off?

Does this also reset the self-adaptation value of the LH unit?

Thanks for the tips I will look at the lines Sunday morning. Do you have any recomendations as to what may cause the code 18 regarding the camshaft thing?

I already told you to check the plug connector.
