Exclamation Cracking noise on D/S front end....

Searching through the threads, I could not find the right answer or lead.

I have my 85 380SE euro that I have worked on this past summer with alot of upgrades as well as maintenance. Recently on a long drive I happened to develop what seems to sound like a cracking noise while braking fron the D/S front wheel area. The P/S doesn't make noise.

I replaced the following.

springs all around
spring shims
shocks
both tie rods
center link
Idler arm rebuild kit

Does this sound like anything specific? how can you tell if the guide rod mounts are going bad as well as the ball joints?

TIA,
Chris

Check the guide rod mounts. That could easily be the problem. Also check to make sure that the brake pads aren't de-laminating.

I'll definately do that; I think it's time to do the guide rod mounts anyway....
