2.6 timing chain replacement 190e
Hi
I am looking for any assistance diagnosing the timing chain and tension in a 1991 mercedes 190E with a 2.6 - car started making a rattling noise....shut car off and now will not restart ..looks like maybe chain tensioner is bad ..chain is quite loose but sprockets are not pointy or sharp ..any suggestions? thanks in advance! |
Typically, M103 chains last quite long time because they are short, compared the the V8's.
Rotate the engine until the marks align at the camshaft and the front cam hearing/rocker arm holder. Then look at the crank damper and read the degree of offset. The chain tesnioner is a ratcheting type. |
Hi
thanks! It is definitely off and I can see slack in the chain(top cover removed). does not seem to have "jumped" but not sure how to change the tensioner....the chain itself and sprockets seem to be fine from what I can see. Information about this seems to be hard to come by! |
ok ....figured out the tensioner ...rather simple actually ....got the time set correctly with warrens help (BIG THANKS) ...now the car still wont start ..
timing is dead on ....checked several times ....compression seems to be low ....90psi what else could have been damaged ? any help would be greatly appreciated ! |
