Noises comming from the sterring wheel when cold and turing left.
I have a 2000 C280 Sport with 76,000 miles. When it is cold out I get into the car and when turing the sterring wheel to the left there is a loud sound. It can be herd from in and outside the car. Someone told me its the power sterring pump. Im am lost on this one. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Check the fluid level. Change the filter and refresh with new fluid.:D

That could be a lot of things, can you describe the noise?
If it's just in one direction, it could also be the steering damper. -tp |
It only comes from the direction when cold out and turning it to the left only. It is a loud noise that can be herd from inside the car. Its hard to explain the noise. Kinda like a grunt and grown noise.
|
It is a little low on fluid. I have to fill mine just slightly above the full line to get rid of the groan.
|
Have you even looked at the fluid level? When was the filter changed, how about changing the fluid? Maybe the whole left side steering components plus all the power steering hoses and clamps are bad... but then again start with the easy stuff, like fluid levels. Let us know.

Checked the fluid level. Its fine and the filter is also. I am guessing it is my sterring pump that is going. What the cost of a power sterring pump for a w202?

With Self leveling? Aprox $1500:eek: |
Try putting in a little more fluid. What do you have to lose?
|
Yes I will definalty try that before spending any money. If that doesnt work is there any other little things it could be?
|
Wheel bearings
|
Maybe the belt.
|
I would say it is the steering damper, just like tinypanzer said much earlier.
Think about it, a pump wouldn't care which direction you were turning the wheel. |
Makes sense, and easy to test. Just remove it and see if the noise stops.
