1994 c280 Speedometer/fuel gauge/ Tach
 

About 2 years ago,the speedometer on my 1994 c280 stopped working upon start up. It would then bounce on at speed, only to quit again upon short stops,then come on again. Replaced the dashboard, but problem persisted, and now affects the Tach and fuel gauge, and sometimes the temp gauge. In cold weather it's worse, until reaching normal operating temperature. Tapping the dash sometimes gets them working, until the next stop, but it's an ongoing problem.
Any repair solutions?

Needles sticking
 

Sounds like sticky glue off of the stop pins is your problem. Take the cluster out and take the front glass off. Use some acetone on a rag and wipe the pins off. The glue starts to run in the summer causing the needles to stick to them. Then it comes loose from jarring. The speedometer comes free due to the torque applied to the needle the faster you go.
