ETA Potentiometer Values
I have a friend who successfully resoldered the ETA wiring harness on a 500S. He had to do both ends since the canon plug end was not the 90 degree type. Now, he's still getting a code related to idle speed and he's thinking it's one of the two potentiometers inside the ETA.
Does anyone know what kind of resistance or voltage values you should get from an operable ETA or how to troubleshoot the ETA itself? Thanks

No, but it would be a good idea to offer the year and model - no such thing as a 500S.

Sorry. I think it's a 1994 S500. In any case, it's got a 119 engine.

Beckmann can test it for about $40.

Thanks, Jim. I read in your Menu #24 that there are no suppliers for a reference potentiometers, so I suppose that, even if it was bad, it wouldn't matter. Any further news on experiences with Beckmann?

I post "interesting" comments from people who buy/rebuild their ETAs.
It appears that many use other sources b/c they have lower prices but as "Brian" wrote (Menu#24), Beckmann Technolgies provided a more expensive re-built ETA.....THAT WORKED....first time!!! The unit had been cleaned and packaged professionally. The extra $150 (after core refund) was well worth it. " |

I would also recommend Beckmann Technologies.

Thanks. My friend learned quickly that there were no suppliers for ref pots, so he pulled a spare out of an old ETA and soldered it in. For troubleshooting purposes, he was getting an open (no voltage) when he tried to run voltage through the original ref pot at any setting.
I guess a replacement can be done, but you have to be lucky in addition to having good soldering skills. I was impressed. Hope it never happens to me.
