W123 Glove Box Lock/Latch - Removal ??

I need to repair the wood trim on a W123 glove box door. The sliding glove box latch/lock must come off to remove the wood trim

How can I remove the sliding latch/lock?

It's been a while since I had a glovebox door apart but after removing the inside panel it should be self evident. It does take a small pair of needle nose or similar to remove the round nuts on the lower inside panel. Otherwise it's just a few phillips head screws holding the inside panel.

Thanks but this doesn't quite get me there......

I've got the glovebox door off and the inside panel removed.....but still no clue as to how to remove the latch/lock. I need the sliding part on the outside of the glovebox to come off so I can remove and repair the wood trim.

Afriad it's not "self evident" to me (duuhhh!) as to how to do it.

I'm relaying this from memory but once the cover is off you should be able disassemble the latch mechanism and then compress the retaining tabs (4 I believe) allowing the slider knob to pull out of the front.

Can't see anything to disassemble...no screws.....the latch "cage" is molded into the back of the glove box....

I see four "tab"s that the latch slider rides on...but they don't seem to give any or depress at all...have pushed on them pretty hard with a pair of screwdrivers...(only have two hands).

Also seems like the slider should be spring loaded somehow but there's none...it just slides back and forth and stays put whereever you leave it.
