89 560 SEL flex disk
Hello everybody;
I've got a question to put infront of the board if you guys have a minute. A friend of mine has a 1989 560 SEL with a vibration problem at higher speeds no matter how many parts he has had replaced. It's hard to tell if it comes from the front or the back and doesn't stop when the tranny is put in neutral. Any ideas. Also the drive shaft from the enging extends out to the flex disk then picks up a slight (maybe about 4 degrees or so) angle going to the differential. I don't know if this is correct . My 400E is in a straight line front to back. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Brian |
Had the same problem and it turned out to be bent rims on the back tires and a front tire that was out of round. The bent rims were very slightly bent, not bat at all. I never would have guessed that they were causing the vibrations. But after changing the rims the problems went away. The MB seem very sensitive to tires and rims and any problems due to imperfections.

I agree with Dave. I got a set of Michelins on factory wheels to replace the Bridgestones also on factory wheels that came with my car. To say it make a world of difference in getting rid of vibrations is an understatement. Don't trust a wheel balancing job. It is possible to get a balanced reading out of a bent or out of round wheel and tire.

I would agree on that - bent rim is usually the problem.
I have a few extra 126 rims if anyone's interested :) |
Are they straight and true? I might be interested.
