'01 W210 "Power Reserve"????

Me again lol..

Hey gang, can anyone else with an '01 E430 tell me if they have a "power reserve" once they turn off the car? I have gotten mixed answers from mechanics etc. Some say its an option? That just does not make sense to me. Most companies either sold their cars with it or not. If my car does have it its not working, I talked to one other Benz employee who actually owns a twin to my car and he says he DOES indeed have it.

So I guess the core question is, if my car is indeed supposed to have the reserve what possible culprits could be keeping it from working? I have checked all fuses and I have read my owners manual cover to cover, the mechanic also said the ignition switch might be the problem and that you also should be able to program the duration of the reserve if it is indeed installed.

BTW, by "Power Reserve" I mean the ability to still run the radio, power windows etc. Once you turn the car off and remove the key usually for a period of approx 30 sec -10 minutes. As long as no doors are opened.

Thanks again guys.

No, once the key is removed everything should go OFF.

Toyotas have that feature, but not MB's so far as I know. Being able to close all the windows with the key takes care of that need anyways.

My radio will play without the key in the ignition, along with the seat controls.

i think the OP is over analyzing this too much...or not clearly stating what
the problem is. all cars have the ability to run limited appliances or circuits
even with key off/out.

so to the OP, what are you wanting to do...or....what is it you feel is not
functioning properly?

with the 210, the radio, windows, int/ext lights, roof, seats, residual heat/
fan..... can be activated when engine is off/key out.

Without the ignition off, the only way that I can move my windows or sliding roof is to use the IR remote or the key in the door cylinder.

The seat controls work if the door is open.

Hi Raymond, well your car must be some kind of exception, or maybe newer than my car? my car is just like "Matt's", my seats only function when the door is open or car is on, which according to my manual is how they are supposed to work. And I'm not really "over analyzing" anything. I simply like the feature that is available in a lot of cars these days including newer benz's in which when you turn off the ignition there is NO loss or break of power and the radio stays on and you can still operate windows and sunroof UNTIL one of the doors is opened.

The key fob thing is nice when you are not in the car. I have used it several times to ventilate the car on a hot day before I get in to go somewhere. But its not the same as just automatically having power remain available once you shut off the car, say for instance you are just parking temporarily waiting for a friend to drop off something etc.

But hey its no biggie, I was just curious, again I love little creature comforts and gadgets is all and I want to make sure all mine work.

Thanks again.
