Back when I was running stock compression at 9psi I got 21mpg all around. I lowered the compression and upped the boost and now I'm down to 14mpg .

'85 380se. get's 19mpg and driving it like there's a brick under the pedal. 50/50 hwy/cty.

'79 280e. get's 14mpg all city miles with the gas pedal down to the floor. its also got a wierd fuel overpressure issue on a full tank so it drops about a quart of gas after fillup.

Hey, that's a good question. Doing 65 - 70 mph I get 16mpg. That can't be right can it? We're talking six cylinder here...three speed automatic.
Which brings up another question. If the plugs are burning clean, timing right, clean air filter. Where can I get information on adjustments to the carburetor--air/fuel mix?

When i drive mostly highway miles (more than 90%) at around 70 mph, i get 27.5 to 28.0 mpg

When mixed driving, about 24 to 25 mpg

This is interesting - I switched to PURE gas, which has no ethanol in it. Running 93 octane gas, after two fill-ups with the PURE gas, my mileage has gone DOWN from 17.5 to 16.2.

Less mileage with NO ETHANOL??? How did that happen?

"'90 300SE gets 17.5 in mostly city driving, with a lead footed driving style. I also keep it in 3rd sometimes in town to keep the motor in the power band and to make deceleration without brakes possible. That's using 93 octane gas with 10% ethanol. I feel reasonably certain that I would be getting over 20 if I drove grandma style.

I just found a station that sells PURE gas (the brand and the description) no ethanol!

It'll be interesting to see if my mileage improves noticeably."

All I can say is wow.....

I drove my 300SE to NC and back, doing 75-85 MPH the whole way. I was stunned to see that my mileage averaged 23.7!!

So, I get 17.5 around town, but on the highway it's considerably higher even at high speeds. I think it is pretty astonishing that a 2 ton car with an inline 6 motor screaming at 4000 RPM the whole time can come anywhere close to 23.7 MPG.

Oddly, I still have soot in my tailpipe so obviously my mileage could be better (at least in town).

I'm amazed.....

It seems a properly running M103 can get pretty decent mileage. I've finally got mine running excellent, and it has been getting about 22.5-23mpg average with a mix 50/50 of city/freeway.

My 300SD has notched up a bit to 24 or so.

On my last tank of fuel, I calculated about 22 MPG in my 1998 C230 NA. That's a mix of city and hwy, mostly city. I expected a bit more than that, but then it's been having a misfire problem, that comes and goes, and the CEL has illuminated randonly a few times. :\

my 1992 190E 2.6 gets 26mpg highway 20 mpg town. my 2001 E430 with V8 gets 27 mpg highway and does poorly in town. The highway mileage is excellent because I drive 80 mph using the cruise control

I get much better mileage than I should in my 1994 E320 Sedan. Speedometer error. BUT, 31.5 mpg highway on a trip from Boston to Bangor, at 55-60 mph, with roughly 10%error, judged by police roadside speed advisors vs. speedometer reading, and using summer gas. Mileage gets considerably lower on winter gas.

Have hit 500 miles on a tank (18.5 USG). That would be 27 mpg, with no error factor. 50/50 mix usually 25 mpg winter, 27 mpg summer, but factor that 10% in again.

Still, not bad at all, and much better than I had expected. I'm easy on the pedal though.
