When I start the new E320

Every time I start the new, to me, 2000 E320, there is a LOUD beep,,, like cars I have had that have a phone in them makes. This car doesn't have a phone,,, that I know of. Anyone know how to silence that dang beep ?

mbdoc 01-12-2009 10:31 AM

Was the car equipped with a phone? Possibly the last owner only removed part of the phone as they are somewhat part of the fiber optic comm bus.

Those fiber optic comm busses sound troublesome. Will a pair of side cutters work ? I really don't know if it had a phone in it or not,,, I'll start looking harder.

My sisters 2000 C280 does the same thing, even though it isn't equipped with a phone.

Loud beep after start up on that vehicle is actually the TELE-AID system turning on. The 2000 C230 did that also, they eliminated it across the board in 2001 to my knowledge.

Thanks for the replies,,, looks like I may have to live with it.

I unplugged the tel-aid system in my car. The American analog cell phone network was decommissioned last year so the tel-aid from that vintage Mercedes will not function anyway with out a pricey upgrade. Now I have no more annoying beep.

Any quick pointers on how to do that ?

It's on the left hand side of the trunk, behind the carpet lining. It's pretty hard to miss.

Read this tread over at benzworld first. There might be a better way.

Thanks for the link. I will look in the rear, but the simple solution seems to be disconnecting the front teleaid speakers. Will let you know how it goes.

Pete Geither 01-13-2009 03:39 PM

That did it,,, disconnected the small speaker on the top of the left side of the dash. No lights came on and the radio sounds the same. Thanks to all for the imput.:D

Had to disconnect the right hand speaker also. The first few times when I started it there was no beep, then the right hand speaker started,,, oh well,,, that infernal noise is gone.
