Noisy auto transmission, '84 380 sl
Here's a new problem. I took the car in to diagnose a noise coming from the car while moving. They replaced the brake pads in front, new sub frame rubbers in the rear section and had me hear a ticking noise in the transmission. The noise wasn't too bad, just a slight ticking but when driven home but the scraping noise still emits from the car while moving. Front wheel bearings seem to be greased and OK. Any Ideas anyone. The transmission was rebuilt about 10 years and 12,000 miles ago. Of course the rebuilder is not in business now. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Ben

Does that car have a speedo cable or is it electronic? Anyone? If it does, that might be the noise you are describing.

I had a strange and elusive ticking noise in my 560SL emanating from the shifter area. It turned out to be the rubber bellows between the front and rear drive shaft was pealed and whipping against the frame.

Checked all motor/trans mounts and the flex discs? It might not be many miles....but 10 years of sitting = dried out rubber.
