Watch out for this one.... Fishy as hell.
Hi All,
I got a private message from a noob - here it is, and my reply. Sounds fishy as hell to me...... Hi Marta, I'm not sure why you picked me out of all the people here to answer your question, but I'll do what I can. Might try posting this to a forum instead of just asking me. I'm far from being the most knowledgeable here. First of all, you CAN tow an automatic even if you can't get it out of park. Only the rear wheels lock with the transmission in park, so they can grab it from the rear and pull it up onto a flat bed. Easy. Sorry, but I'm NOT going to tell you how to disable the immobilizer. I hope you understand..... -tp QUOTE=marta]Hello! I'm asking this on behalf of a friend of me. She has a W124 Coupe from -91. There was an attempt to break the door lock on the drivers side a week ago. Since then her car is stranded, impossible to start and impossible to tow as it's an automatic. As she can not afford the costs at the MB workshop to have it repaired (about USD400 just for a new lock) I ask You for instructions how to disable the immobilizer to let her use the car. I'm a skilled electronics professional and hobbyist and can carry out even an advanced procedure. A great Thankyou in advance. Best regards, /Marta Karlsson[/QUOTE] |

I think it's funny how the alleged owner of the vehicle can't afford a $400 repair bill. Anyone who can't afford a $400 repair really shouldn't be driving a Mercedes.

True. The USD400 kinda gives it away.

I wonder why a skilled electronics professional and hobbyist never asks for my advice

It seems this one found a way to bypass this tread, see how this one sneaks it in. |

Yup, she sneaked it in all right. Now I see why she emailed me.
For all I know, she could be legit..... But it still seems odd to me. Honestly, how could you NOT know that the car IS towable? -tp |

plus the USD400 is kinda fishy. I deal with people overseas a lot and they dont even use the USD crap... its $400 or just 400.. its understood to be USD.. if not I still come out ahead since the euro and sterling pound is trading better than the dollar. |
