E420 Sudden Poor Idle, Power Loss, ABS, Rotten Egg Smell

1994, 48k miles. It runs perfectly for a bit, then randomly bogs down, feels like running on one cylinder, and the ABS light comes on and a horrible fart smell fills the car. I've been avoiding the beans...I know it is the car.

Could this be symptom of the infamous wire harness? Throttle? Plugged c. converter?

I find it strange that it is intermittent.

Could be a charging system issue.

Scanning the traction system computer (ABS) should help.

Rough idle

It runs pretty well, but the idle is a bit rough, and when it bogs down, I need to floor it to move it...feels like 1/20th of the power. When it bogs down, the rotten egg smell comes.

It only has 47k miles...never changed cap rotors...plugs look good.

Any way to tell if the wire harness is acting up? Does this seem like that?

the first e420 that i changed the engine wiring harness in [some 11yrs ago] smelled exactly like that.break thru the outer harness and check it out.

What did you find? Sounds like a harness.

I don't know about this particular car, and this is just a WAG. I have seen instances where a EGR valve that is opening at the wrong time or is stuck or partially stuck open caused this symptom, albeit on a Ford Taurus.
