how to identify bad lifter
HI,
had to replace my camshaft; after removing rockers i found that 2 of the Hydraulic Valve Compensators ( lifter, ball stud, whatever you wanna call em) were "popped out"; does that mean they are bad? how can you tell without using the go no go tool if they're bad? i pulled out one of the ones that was popped and it's just a cylinder with a spring in the bottom....i tried pulling up on some of the other ones but they won't move....also, the ring that's around the cylinder part on the top of the hyd. element just turns (it looks like it is there to keep the cylinder from coming out, but i am not sure)...so anyway, if anyone has any info on those i would appreciate some feedback, thanks |

ahhh...thanks compress....i was only looking in the Tech Help section and not the diesel discussion....i didn't even think to look at the chewed up rocker arms...i numbered them all when i took them out....turns out #5, #6, and #8 were all the chewed up ones....and the hydraulic valve elements for #6 and #8 were popped out, now the #5 element wasn't popped out, but the clamp ring was loose and turning (all the others are firm)....thanks again compress
