Replacing the radial shaft seal.
To replace the radial shaft seal without removing the top timing cover my manual says that I need to use the insertion sleeve tool. My question is can I improvise and use something else?

What kind of car & location of the seal.......

I'm sorry. It's a '91 300 CE. It's the exhaust cam seal.

to install that seal w/o tool you must be very careful not to damage the inner lip as you move the seal over the end of the camshaft.

Thanks for the info. I thought there might some way to improvise the installation.

Youmight be able to use some thin shim stock: form it into a cylinder and use it to slide the seal over the shaft. In genreal this often works.
